![]() ![]() other than the keyboard and the USB-C power connector i don’t have any complaints.Įven running in rosetta on the M1 mac minis the performance is looking really great for a lot of software.Įdit: also there’s some strikes against the intel 16 inch macbook pro. the 2018 i9 6 core is a beast by comparison. battery life is like 40 minutes and it won’t run anything beyond high sierra i think… i bought a used 2018 macbook pro a year or two(?) ago and sometimes i wish i’d waited. I have a 2011 macbook pro that is still doing OK. you could just resell it at a small loss once the new hotness comes out. i’ve seen some good deals on older macbook pros. You could always find something to tide you over until then if your current laptop is gonna die. I think it’s 6 months away or something though… i can’t remember the rumors of when it’s supposed to come out. the M1 already looks like a monster for audio work and i can only guess that the larger mac book pro will be more of that. Sorry for the wall of text, but I really appreciate any advice any of y’all can give. What I’m wondering really boils down to whether anyone with a similar level of software/hardware needs is currently running an MBP 16” with base specs or similar and if they’d recommend waiting, or if their current setup meets their needs. Obviously, a 16” M1 hasn’t been announced, but I’m set on that size after having used one for my work laptop for a year now. I’m planning to upgrade my MBP sometime this year regardless to at least the base 16” MBP with the i7, likely spec’d up to 1TB and 32GB RAM. I mention all of those to say that: at present, all of those work to varying degrees due to system limitations, but they DO run on Big Sur with Logic 10.6 with the exception of Overbridge. Wouter Hisschemöller Euclidean Rhythm Generator.I’m also using the following pretty frequently: Digitakt & Model:Cycles (use the Elektron software utility suite).Minilogue XD (uses the Minilogue transfer utility).Focusrite Scarlett 4i4 Interface (uses Focusrite Control).I also experience latency issues (pretty inconsistently but often enough that it bears mention) with my interface and hardware. and even stock plugins when used on master chain or if the project gets too big. I do, however, experience Logic Pro X chokes and crashes pretty frequently - particularly when working with 3rd party plugins like Cthulhu, AudioDelay, PanCake, Riffer, etc. Aside from my patience running thin with the screen size, the atrocious keyboard design, and a rapidly dying battery, it certainly works for the most part. I currently run a 13” 2017 MBP i5 2.3GHz with 16GB of RAM and it is, in many ways, not long for this world. I’m specifically wondering about any insight on performance of the 16” Intel and whether it’s worth the software compatibility gamble and the wait for an eventual release in the 16” size to spring for the M1. You’ve all no doubt seen some variation of this question over the past few months, and I’m here to pose it once more lol. ![]()
